Happy Clapper is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run a fortnight ago and will leave from the ideal barrier 6 in the Bill Ritchie Handicap on Saturday.

Gaining ballot-free entry into the Doncaster Mile when he charged home to win the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in December, Happy Clapper resumed this year for a credible fourth in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Progressing to fifth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), the Teofilo gelding produced a slick late effort to finish second behind Winx in the Doncaster Mile, and ended his campaign third in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Happy Clapper placed fifth in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) first-up a fortnight ago and should receive an ideal run in transit on Saturday with regular hoop Brenton Avdulla aboard.

Godolphin will launch a two-pronged attack on the Group 3 sprint after trainer John O’Shea confirmed both Federal and Handfast in the 2016 Bill Ritchie Handicap field.

Federal produced a number of smart efforts through an autumn and winter campaign, highlighted by a close second in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on June 11th.

Handfast is another runner that produced several classy performances in autumn, highlighted by a maiden black type win in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run behind Sir Bacchus and Snoopy in the Racing Mates BM85 (1200m) on August 27th, the Street Cry gelding will leave from barrier 9 with Tim Clark in the saddle.

Mighty Lucky is a proven first-up performer but may require luck in running on Saturday, after drawing into the Bill Ritchie Handicap in barrier 10.

Beating a talented field to the line in the Royal Randwick 100 (1400m) upon resuming this year on April 16th, Mighty Lucky ran second in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) and sixth in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) before ending his campaign with success in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) in Brisbane.

The Chris Waller-trained Sadler’s Lake has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier 12 in the Bill Ritchie Handicap 2016.
